We Swedes aren’t exactly known for being religious, so most of our Christian holidays are a bit of a mystery to us. We watch the Norwegians with envy as they throw themselves into their National Day on May 17th, while most Swedes don’t even know why we get a day off on June 6th. It’s just… nice to not be at work.
But some traditions we do care deeply about.
But some traditions we do care deeply about.
Valborg, when we welcome spring with bonfires. Midsummer, the longest, brightest day of the year — complete with dancing and strange songs about frogs. And Lucia, when we parade around in white robes, carrying candles and singing. It probably looks insane to outsiders, but to us, it’s perfectly normal.
SVT has been broadcasting concerts for these occasions for years — and four years ago, together with Warner Bros., they decided it was time for a fresh take. They called us at Fandango, and with director Daniel Jigenstedt, we gave these shows a visual makeover: bigger, bolder, and more cinematic than ever.
We kept what worked but added film-quality cameras, beautiful locations, and lighting you don’t usually see on live TV. But as always, the real magic comes from the artists — and the army of brilliant people behind the scenes.
And with Eva Rados from Warner Bros. pushing us all to give that little bit extra, it really shows.
So enjoy the show tonight — a new kind of tradition, made the Swedish way: with a little charm, a little weirdness, and a lot of heart.
